A MAN tragically killed in a crash on a major road has been named locally as Dean Miles.

Flowers have been left at the scene on Broadway, Horsforth, along with heartbreaking messages. 

Tributes have also been paid on social media following the sad news.

Dean is understood to be from the Horsforth area. 

One card at the scene says: "Nothing will ever be the same. Love and miss you so much. RIP Dean."

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.50pm yesterday following reports a silver Skoda Fabia had been in collision with a male.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended the scene, but the male was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later.

"The driver of the vehicle, a 24-year-old male, received minor injuries and has been arrested in connection with this incident.

"The Major Collision Enquiry Team is investigating the incident and is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who was in the area between Horsforth roundabout and Rodley roundabout between 1.30pm and 2pm who may have dash cam footage of the vehicle or the pedestrian prior to the collision.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact MCET on 101, or by using the 101LiveChat function on the West Yorkshire Police website, quoting log 0840 of May 12."

People in the area have spoken of their shock.

One resident who lives nearby said: “It’s just awful news.

"Since they built that new housing estate (the Redrow development), quite a lot of people walk up and down this road.

"People have to cross this busy road to get to the primary school.

"They’re going to have to do something about this road.”

Another person said: “There are regularly accidents on this road.

“There was even a bump this morning. This road is so congested at peak times."

Another local resident said: "I'd like to express my condolences to his friends and relatives."

He also spoke about how busy the area is for pedestrians and drivers.

"People struggle to get out when they make a right turn out of Calverly Lane at the bottom.

"Traffic comes so fast up the hill."

A cyclist, who has lived in Horsforth all of his life, said: "I sometimes don't ride on the road with my bike because of all the accidents around here. I stay on the paths but you have to be mindful of walkers.

"It's so sad about the pedestrian. I've seen all the messages on Facebook."
