AN angry representative from a rugby club has blasted ‘eyesore’ fly-tipping regularly dumped on a closed off road in the Bradford district.

Items including wooden chairs, pieces of carpets and seats from a sofa have been left strewn on Shay Lane, Heaton.

It is believed to have been dumped there in midweek last week.

It is the latest example of fly-tipping left near to the entrance of Bradford Salem Rugby Football Club and volunteers say it is a dangerous eyesore.

Marie Waite, caterer and cleaner at Bradford Salem, says fly-tipping is a common problem on the lane.

She said: “Fly-tipping is the biggest problem down there at the moment.

“It’s right outside the gates of the club. The business of the rubbish is pretty bad.

It’s an eyesore and it’s dangerous. We have people coming to the club walking through our gates who have to step over the rubbish

“It’s putting people off coming to the club.

“It’s turning into a full-time job for people at the club to report about the fly-tipping.

“It’s like having their bins emptied when they fly-tip down here. They do it, then the council take it away and they come and do it again.”

Councillor Mohammed Amran (Lab, Heaton) says fly-tipping is a common problem in that area and wardens are regularly patrolling there.

He said: “It is a dead end. It is a problem there. We get lots of fly-tipping there.

“We have our wardens out there. If we find out who has done it, they will be prosecuted.

“We are dealing with it.”

In the past year a number of people have been taken to court and fined after being caught fly tipping. Several vehicles identified as having been used for fly-tipping have also been seized.

Last week a Bradford district cllr said the council is taking a tough stance against fly-tipping after someone was fined £100 for being caught dumping rubbish in Peel Park.

Cllr Si Cunningham (Lab, Bolton and Undercliffe), said last week following the Peel Park prosecution: "We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping in Bradford, no matter how big or small.”
