PEOPLE in Bradford are being urged to "check before they tip" after a fly-tipping incident in a popular park led to one householder being issued with a £100 fine.

Following reports to Councillors in Bolton and Undercliffe about piles of bulky waste in Peel Park, Bradford Council officers conducted an investigation to trace the owners of the rubbish.

The owners were found and issued with a fixed penalty notice for fly-tipping after admitting liability. They had used the services of an odd-job man purporting to have a license to clear gardens of waste.

Responding to the action, Cllr Si Cunningham (Lab, Bolton and Undercliffe), said: "We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping in Bradford, no matter how big or small. Peel Park is a beautiful part of the city and I'm determined to keep it that way.

"When I heard about these incidents, I asked officers to investigate thoroughly, and they did a brilliant job of swiftly tracing the waste and issuing a fine.

"My message to people locally is, your rubbish is your responsibility, so please double check the credentials of waste removal services, especially when booked via social media.

“A cheap service could lead to a hefty fine."

Investigations are ongoing to trace others involved in the Peel Park incidents.
