PLANS for a new industrial development on a key site on a Bradford road have been approved.

The plot of land at the junction of Wakefield Road and Usher Street is on one of the main routes into the city centre, and used to be home to the Bradmet Centre, which was demolished in 2016.

In January a planning application was submitted to build two industrial units and a digital advertising sign on the site.

The application, by Saeed Hassan, would create 580 square metres of industrial space on the vacant site.

The proposals have since been altered to create four smaller units on the same footprint as the two initial units.

Now the application has been approved by planning officers, who pointed out that the site was located in one of the city's "employment zones."

They added: "As a result of its detailed design and appearance the proposed building would appear acceptable both along Wakefield Road and Usher Street and would not have an adverse effect on the character and appearance of the area."

They said there was adequate parking on the planned development.

The development is the latest in a series of industrial and employment sites in Bradford to be granted planning permission.

Last month an application to re-develop an overgrown former mill site between Filey Street and Leeds Road was granted planning permission by Bradford Council.

And in August an application for units on a car park site on Caledonia Street was granted by officers.
