A 64-YEAR-old Bradford child sex offender who was jailed earlier this month could have his sentence increased after a legal challenge.

Ahmed Thakar, of Cleckheaton Road, exploited a vulnerable child by having sex with her, Bradford Crown Court heard, leading to him being jailed for five years and four months.

His actions were described in court as "utter wickedness and the judge said he was "devoid of any remorse whatsoever".

Now a bid has been made to the Attorney General to increase his jail term under a scheme for unduly lenient sentences.

It gives crime victims, the public and the Crown Prosecution Service, a chance to ask for a sentence to be reviewed.

Thakar groomed the teenage girl with money and gifts of jewellery and persuaded her to exchange almost 14,000 phone messages with him.

He pleaded guilty on the day of his trial to having sex with the girl and kissing her.

Judge Jonathan Rose spoke of the “utter wickedness” of Thakar’s behaviour. He had lied to his family and did not accept any responsibility for his actions.

He made a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered Thakar to sign on the sex offender register, both without limit of time.
