Officers from our Highways Department have inspected and have partially re-opened the road. One lane at the bottom remains closed so please take extra care.
The road was shut was three days in total.
The substance is believed to be a biofuel, made up of animal fat.
Firefighters explained how the spillage had left the road as "slippery as ice" and urged drivers to avoid the area for the rest of the day.
A detour has been created via Midland Road, Thorncliffe Road and the A650 Manningham.
A full investigation has been launched by the council as the clean up operation continues.
