A ROAD worn down by regular use by heavy vehicles is among highways in the Bradford South Area that will be resurfaced in the coming year.

Bradford Council's five Area Committees are currently deciding which roads will share the £300,000 annual pot allocated to each of them to re, surface the district's roads.

The Bradford South Area Committee has used its funds to fund works on six roads, Morley Carr Road in Wyke, Arkwright Street in Tyersal, Hollybank Road, Frensham Drive and Southmere Drive, all in Great Horton, and Spartan Road, Low Moor.

Streets in Bradford West to be resurfaced using £300,000 highways money

Spartan Road will be the most expensive scheme, costing £78,000 to surface 270 metres. Members of the committee were told that because the road was used by industrial vehicles, the resurfacing would need to be between six and 12 inches deep, meaning it would cost more. However, officers said work to re-surface the road was "long overdue."

Members were told there was a 46 strong reserve list of roads would be looked at in future years, or if more funds became available.

Works to those 46 roads would cost £849,250.
