A HEARTBROKEN mum today paid tribute to her beautiful daughter who died days before her 16th birthday.

Jade McQueen lost her fight for life in hospital today after suffering horrific injuries in a road crash outside Knightswood Secondary last week.

The 15-year-old was looking forward to birthday celebrations in nine days time and couldn't wait to turn 16.

Mum Karlyn McMonagle, 36, today spoke about the loss of her beloved daughter.

The family, who live in Archerhill Road, Knightswood, spent days by Jade's bed in Glasgow's Southern General Hospital.

However, she never regained consciousness and died in the early hours of today.

Her mum said: "Her friends had made a special book with messages and pictures to try and make Jade better.

"We were going to take the book into the hospital this morning but now she will never see it."

Today fellow pupils, including Jade's third year classmates at Knightswood Secondary, were told the news.

Her friend Zoe Wilson, 14, remains in a stable condition in the Western Infirmary.

Karlyn said: "All Jade could talk about was turning 16. She was already doing hairdressing part-time at college and that's all she wanted to do.

"She always had a real spark about her and was a friend as well as a daughter. Her younger sister Shauney, 14, and her were like twins and she is finding it difficult."

Jade was transferred from the Western Infirmary to the Southern General. However, her family were told there was little hope of her surviving.

Karlyn, who is being supported by her dad Robert, added: "She never really came round and was only semi-conscious and thereafter in a coma."

Head teacher Ian Muchan paid tribute to the popular pupil.

He said: "The school is very saddened by this tragic accident. Jade was a popular girl. She will be greatly missed by all pupils and staff at Knightswood Secondary.

"Our thoughts are with her parents at this time."

Jade and friend Zoe Wilson, 14, were hit close to Knightswood Secondary during their morning break as they crossed Anniesland Road around 11am last Thursday.

It's thought they were trying to catch a bus on the other side of the road.

The 33-year-old driver of the Ford Transit van was uninjured.

Police have again appealed for witnesses and a full report on the accident will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
