The road was closed to allow an air ambulance to land
THE AIRE Valley road was closed between the Cross Hills/Kildwick and Silsden/Steeton roundabouts following an accident earlier today.
Police said a 40-year-old man had been involved in a collision with a grey Vauxhall Astra near the Steeton roundabout.
The man, who is believed to have suffered head injuries, was treated by an air ambulance crew.
Police were circulated at 1.34pm, and officers from West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire forces closed the stretch of the A629 at either end.
The road was closed until around 2.40pm, and traffic is still heavy and queuing in all directions.
