25 years ago: Labour councillors said that council plans to increase car parking charges by up to 114 per cent, generating the authority £40,000 a year, would lead to people avoiding the city centre.
50 years ago: The Ilkley Railway Supporters Association announced that a petition objecting to the proposed closure of the town’s station under the Beeching plan had 25,000 signatures.
