From the Telegraph & Argus of December 14, 1981...A councillor is calling on Bradford Council to reinstall grit bins after the authority said they cost too much. Baildon's Fred Atkinson criticised the Council's decision to remove grit bins from isolated areas instead of refilling them. He said spending £4,000 a year on the bins was as much of a priority as reopening bus routes on Manningham Lane, a plan which is thought will cost thousands of pounds.

From the Telegraph & Argus of December 14, 1956...A 15-year-old pupil has found himself standing out from the crowd in a domestic science class where he is the only boy in a class of 31. Jeffrey Beever's ambitions to become a chef meant his headmaster gave him special permission to join the cookery class rather than joining his fellow school-boys in woodwork. Jeffrey, who attends Heckmondwike County Secondary School, has been offered a job as a chef at a Harrogate hotel on leaving school.
