Shadow Education Chairman Councillor Peter Gilmor said officers and councillors have stated how difficult it was to re-introduce swimming lessons in first schools.

From the Telegraph & Argus of November 27, 1956...Seconds separated drama from tragedy last night when a West Yorkshire bus from Otley to Bradford ploughed into a bus shelter in Harrogate Road in Eccleshill. Only seconds before a bus had picked up several passengers waiting at the glass fronted shelter.
