Telegraph & Argus, Friday, 15 February 1952:

Two million sorrowing people lined the streets of London as King George VI, moved from the hall of Westminster to the resting place of Sovereigns at Windsor. Following behind the coffin, in a state carriage came the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret and the Princess Royal. A great stillness had fallen upon a vast bareheaded crowd as the procession moved off, and women wept openly as the cortege wound slowly from the Old Palace Yard. George VI was discovered dead in bed at the age of 56 on the morning of February 6, 1952. The news of the sudden death at Sandringham of King George VI was received by the nation with profound sorrow.
