Bradford Daily Telegraph Saturday, February 23, 1924:

Bradford people had turned out in their thousands in the bright sunshine to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Mary on her first visit to the city. The informal nature of the visit explained the absence of the street decorations associated with such occasions, but this was compensated for by the warmth of the greeting. The grey old city was at its peak as the Princess made her way to North Parade to open the new Y.M.C.A., were she was met by the Lord Mayor and Bishop of Bradford. After lunch at the Town Hall the Royal then entered the Alhambra Theatre to witness the performance of “The Magic Flute” by the British National Opera Company, the real object of her visit.
