Telegraph & Argus Friday, June 3, 1977:
Cricket spectators at Bradford’s Park Avenue ground had been banned from using the back of the football stand, because it was unsafe. The rickety double-decker stand, with its intricate lattice-work and arches, offering a fine elevated view, had been condemned as a fire hazard, much to the consternation of cricket lovers. Despite warnings that the stand was unsafe, spectators still took the risk to watch Yorkshire play Northants. Park Avenue’s eight acres had been officially opened with a cricket match on 20th July 1880. At the time of the opening, a splendid cricket pavilion designed by Messrs Andrews and Peppers, was still under construction on the southern side of the ground.
