Bradford Daily Telegraph Friday, January 11, 1924:
A terrible catastrophe had occurred at Zetland Mills in Wharf Street, Bradford, after a huge beam had collapsed whilst 30 operatives were just starting work for the day. Reports stated that it had been a mere splinter of wood, which could have given way at any time, that was the cause of the tragedy ending with a death toll of four and fifteen seriously injured. The stability of the building had therefore severely hampered the rescue procedure as it was deemed more important to secure the building so the rescuers didn’t share the same fate as the victims.
