Violet Joyce and her brother Giuseppe Rawling got in touch regarding the photograph of staff at Raymond Lister’s tailoring shop on White Abbey Road, due to shut next month after nearly 40 years of making suits.

The story with the photo (T&A, June 29), which had been sent in by reader Benjamin Dunn, mentioned that Raymond used to work for White Bros, a clothes-making business with outlets on Leeds Road and Barkerend.

It prompted Violet to write: “I would like to let you know that one of the women in the photo is my mother Mrs Silva Rawling, who worked as a tailoress for White Brothers. She is the lady with the big smile on the left of the photo. My brother and I recall the other two ladies, but cannot remember their names.

“After my Mum’s death in 1982, I went to visit Victor White in Moortown several times. The tailor’s shop on Barkerend Road was such a friendly working environment, and my brother, who is 16 years younger than me, used to spend time there with her, especially in the school holidays.

“We’d be happy for this information to be passed on to Benjamin Dunn, and to hear from him if he wants to get in touch.”

If Benjamin wishes to get in touch, Violet and Giuseppe can be contacted on (01274) 661227.
