The fledgling Heckmondwike Petanque Club continue to grow in stature at an incredible rate.
It is now one of the biggest clubs in West Yorkshire and last week ten members made their regional debut in a melee at Stockton-on-Forest, near York.
Janet Spencer and Alan Oxley finished joint sixth overall of the 43 players involved from across the north.
Roger and Jane Farrar, Clive and Carol McCulloch, Amy Best, Frank Huntley, Pat Hardwick and Ann Oxley also played.
Club secretary Alan Oxley said: “Make no bones about it, Heckmondwike Petanque Club is on the map. We received many glowing commendations from many experienced players at the tournament.”
On home ground on Saturday at Firth Park, Steve Penny came out on top of an inter-club melee, winning all three of his matches.
Joint second were Roger and Alma Johnson with two wins each. Ralph Clegg was fourth, his plus-six score topping those who won one game.
There is a double dose of action this Saturday at the club. As well as the usual session at 10am, members are helping at the Firth Park open day with demonstrations and have-a-go-sessions available during the afternoon.
