Bingley Bees found themselves on the wrong end of a swarm in their last game of 2011, being beaten 3-0 at Wakefield Thirds in the Yorkshire Women’s Premier Division.
The young Wakefield side consisted of fit and fast players who moved the ball around quickly and swarmed around Bingley when they were in possession, giving them no time on the ball.
Wakefield were physical with it too, Bingley being given the advantage from several stick tackles and, in one instance, a ten-yard advantage when a dissenting home player hit the ball away.
However, Wakefield gained numerous penalty corners and were 2-0 ahead at half-time, despite game defending by keeper Kirsty Matthews, Steph Robertshaw, Jenny Bone, Jo Dean, Claire Richardson and Cath Burgess.
Bingley came out fighting in the second half, determination by Gail Day, Fran Nichol and man of the match Jo Geldard getting the ball into Wakefield’s half.
Day, following a penalty corner, and Geldard had goals disallowed before Wakefield notched their third.
Women’s North Premier League leaders Ben Rhydding beat visitors Kendal 9-1.
Rebecca Dallas and Jo Ellis both bagged hat-tricks, Sarah Bell (2) and Eleanor Trafford completing the tally.
