Bingley Bees Firsts maintained their unbeaten record in Yorkshire Women’s Division One with a 1-0 derby victory at Skipton.

Leaders Bingley went ahead after only five minutes, Sarah Hall’s well-taken short corner allowing Mel Burgess to score.

Then Bingley’s strong defence did not allow Skipton any real chances on goal.

Jo Dean’s hard work in defence gained her the player of the match award.

Bees Seconds lost 3-2 at home to City of York Thirds in Division Three, which was a blow to the hosts’ chances of survival.

However, things started so well when Lill Allen capitalised on a rebound from a shot by player of the match Emma Crawley.

Striker Jane Sharkey made it 2-0 after 25 minutes, following a first-time strike by Allen, but York scored as half-time approached but Sharkey was unlucky that the whistle blew for half-time just as her shot was crossing the York goal-line.

York equalised from a deflection and got the winner with ten minutes left.

In Men’s Division Six North, the Bees’ first team defeated Halifax Fourths 3-1, Matthew Clough hitting a hat-trick, while Halifax’s goal came against the run of play.

There were also good performances from Joe Manning, Mark Greenbank and Robbie Manning.
