Bradford Seconds hosted 100 per centers Chapeltown in Yorkshire Men's Division Six and beat them 2-1.

The first half was hard work for Bradford, who were struggling to build attacks.

Good work from Dave Neville and Guy Sutcliffe kept Bradford in the game, but Chapeltown scored on 21 minutes after a poor clearance.

However, this galvanised Bradford, Mathew Stubley having a shot saved on the line, Joe Bartholomew shooting just wide and James Hunt starting to drive through the centre.

Immediately before half-time, Bram Large finished off a fine passing move around the Chapeltown circle, diving in at the far post.

Bradford started the second half strongly and, for most of the half, Bradford pressed deeper into the opposition half to support creative midfielder Bartholomew.

Wingers Steven Adamson and Colin Whitehead created chances for John McGann, who was denied several times by great saves.

With the umpires signalling one minute, Colin Whitehead burst down the right and beat two defenders before sliding the ball across the Chapeltown goal for Large to grab his second.

On Sunday, Bradford Seconds went to Leeds University Sixths and won 3-2, going behind after the hosts dominated the first 20 minutes.

Bradford pushed for an equaliser, Whitehead and captain Nick Hayes being prominent, but the final ball was lacking.

Then tiredness kicked in from the previous day, and Leeds went 2-0 up.

Just before half-time, McGann grabbed Bradford’s opener and, with Bradford having more possession in the second half, he soon scored again.

Keeper David Bean then pulling off a number of crucial saves for Bradford before, with ten minutes left, Whitehead and McGann combined for the winner. The visitors still had to survive a penalty corner.

In other games, Bradford Firsts lost 2-1 at York in Division Two and Bradford Thirds’ miserable Division Seven season continued with an 11-0 thrashing by York University.

Bingley Bees are second in Yorkshire Women’s Division One after winning a crucial match at promotion rivals Tadcaster Magnets.

Both teams went into the contest on 20 points but Magnets had the better goal difference.

However, they hosts could only muster ten players due to injuries, and Bingley took advantage, Claire Watkins and player of the match Fran Nichol scoring.
