Bingley Bees are in second place in Yorkshire Hockey Women’s Division One after winning a crucial match at promotion rivals Tadcaster Magnets.

Both teams went into the contest on 20 points but Magnets had the better goal difference.

However, they hosts could only muster ten players due to injuries, and Bingley took advantage of that.

From the start, the visitors gelled, putting together some great flowing moves.

A goal soon arrived, Claire Watkins deflecting a hard cross from the right into the net but, despite continuing to press, that was the only goal of the first half.

In the second half, Jo Geldard and Fran Nichol linked well up front, player of the match Nichol getting the Bees’ second goal.

Tadcaster tried hard but struggled to penetrate, although Bingley goalkeeper Kirsty Matthews made a fantastic save on the line in the dying minutes.

Bingley Bees Ladies Seconds are also in the hunt for promotion from Yorkshire Division Three, the third-placed club playing hosts to fourth-placed Batley.

The visitors led 2-0 at half-time but the Bees came out pumped up in the second half, Sian Rolfs and Sarah Partington scoring in quick succession to earn a draw The seconds remain third but will climb to second if they win their game in hand.

Bingley Bees, who are leading Yorkshire Men's Division Eight, got off to an uncharacteristically slow start against visitors Huddersfield Dragons Fifths, allowing the visitors a number of early opportunities.

However, the hosts gathered themselves and slowly took control of midfield, creating their own chances.

Simon Hinchliffe finally opened the scoring for the Bees with a well-struck shot from close range late in the first half, and they started the second half in sharp contrast to the first, Matthew Clough netting with their first move.

The Bees then controlled large parts of the second half without extending their lead, but allowed Dragons a late consolation goal.

Bradford Seconds hosted 100 per centers Chapeltown in Division Six and beat them 2-1.

The leaders went ahead in the first half but good defensive work from Dave Neville and Guy Sutcliffe kept Bradford in the game.

This galvanised Bradford and they equalised immediately before half-time through Bram Large.

He also got the winner in the last minute after great work by Colin Whitehead.
