BINGLEY Bees are at the bottom of Yorkshire Men's Division Four North, despite a plucky 3-3 draw at home to City of York Sixths.

Determined to start with more intensity and aggression than in previous weeks, the home side matched their visitors to Bradford Grammar School, without creating clear-cut chances.

However, thanks to excellent organisation and passing, the Bees started to dominate and opened the scoring with a goal from Jason Johnson.

York looked dangerous from short corners but were kept out by good work from keeper Chris Silberberg and his defence.

Bingley extended the lead with a superb breakaway goal set up by Luke Matthews and finished by man of the match Lewis Miller, but York hit back in the second half by converting a short corner.

But the hosts held firm and regained their two-goal lead with a cheeky finish from Oliver Moor.

Unfortunately, York's pressure told with two late goals from short corners, with the last goal coming from the final play of the game.

Bingley's disappointment at being pegged back and next-to-bottom Wakefield Fifths drawing 3-3 at Scarborough was tempered by a great team performance and good games from the younger players.

In Yorkshire Women's Division Two, bottom-of-the-table Bingley Bees managed a 2-2 draw at home to mid-table Harrogate Thirds, despite suffering problems of their own making.

The hosts named a squad of 14 for the match at Bradford Grammar School, but only ten players were there for the pushback.

However, the Bees responded after this low to take the game to the visitors.

Despite going behind to a soft goal that dribbled over a defensive stick from a penalty corner, the home side quickly equalised when Rachael Holdsworth slammed the ball home.

After a stern half-time team talk, the Bees again responded but fell behind after Harrogate netted a rebound which came back off the keeper from a penalty corner.

Determined not to be beaten though, Mel Burgess, who had returned from injury, made it 2-2 and they got their point after some fantastic saves from Steph Robertshaw in the final five minutes.

The player of the match award, however, went to Clare Staniland, who defended outstandingly throughout.
