Boston Spa Seconds 1, Bingley Bees 1

BINGLEY Bees are out of the Yorkshire Men's Division Four North relegation places after a creditable 1-1 draw at mid-table Boston Spa Seconds.

Unusually for this season, the match was played in bright – though not warm – sunshine, with Boston Spa expecting a decent contest.

Both teams made a pacy start, helped by a quick playing surface, but the first 15 minutes were largely played within the 23-metre lines, with neither team gaining the upper hand.

However, a snap shot from a Spa player caught the underarm of the Bees keeper in the 18th minute and ended up in the back of the net.

The Bees pressed for an immediate equaliser and achieved it three minutes later when a mishit shot from Joe Manning fell kindly for Jason Johnson, who calmly squared the ball away from the advancing keeper for Sean Massey to score.

The match was there for either side to win in the second half but, despite a number of good chances both ways, there was no further scoring.

Nevertheless, the draw put the Bees on ten points, and above York University Thirds, who now occupy the second demotion place, on goal difference.

Bingley Bees Seconds lost their Development League match 3-2 at home to Airedale Fourths.

The women's teams were both defeated, the first team 3-0 at home to City of York Seconds in the Premier Division, and the second team 4-1 at second-placed Barnsley in Division Four. Both Bees teams are second from bottom.
