A Burley-in-Wharfedale school enjoyed home success after hosting the first event of a new cross country running season.
Ghyll Royd School staged the opening Wharfedale Cross Country League meeting, when children from reception to year six from 22 schools took part.
The host school’s year six boys’ team were rewarded as Logan Hargreaves-Madhas and Luke Tweed won first and second place respectively, while the year one boys came third in their category.
Ghyll Royd cross country organiser David Martin said: “I was relieved that the sun shone after the recent heavy rain. Parts of the course were soft and sticky, giving the children both a real test and a taste of cross-country.”
He thanked those who helped with the event, including Shirley Wood from Ilkley Harriers.
