Bingley Harriers moved into promotion position at the top of the Northern Track & Field League Division Two as old rivals Leeds City crashed at Cleckheaton.

Having won the first of the four-match league, Leeds came bottom on this occasion.

Oliver Robinson won all his four events – the 400m hurdles in 53.9sec, the 110m hurdles in 16.9sec, the flat 400m in 50.8sec and the 4x100m relay, alongside Demetric Nelson, Harrison Foster and Matthew Walker.

Ian Lindley returned to strengthen the throwing squad by putting the shot in a season’s best of 12.85m.

Harriers’ ladies section showed strength in depth, with Carly Robertson winning the 1500m in a time of 4min 55.9sec, ably supported by Jenna Killock winning the B-string.

New recruit, Scottish international Emma Raven, won the 3000m with relative ease in the windy conditions, clocking 9min 37.7sec, which was not far short of her personal best.

Regional endurance head coach Brian Scobie said:“Emma was really impressive, in these conditions, with such a time”

Spenborough youngster Jenny Walsh pushed her and finished eight seconds behind but 150m clear of her pursuers.

Jessica Mayho, who is improving all the time in the hammer, threw a winning personal best of 48.54m. Janine Crosby triumphed in the discus with a throw of 36.25m and was again well-supported by the multi-talented Beckfoot PE teacher Amy Howard.

Host club Spenborough finished fourth, a position they now need to maintain to survive in the division.

Their top performers were in the women. Sarah Roberts won the high jump and javelin and was part of the winning 4x400m relay.

Chelsea Mitchell won the shot and Emma Rawnsley the B-string high jump. In the 200m, Amy Freeman was victorious in the B-string race in 25.6sec, while team-mate Sasha Craig was second in the A-race in 25.9.

Amy Sharrad won the 800m in 2min 28.5sec.

In Division Three, Skyrac went to Middlesbrough and finished second, offering them visions of promotion. Manager, Tim Agar said: “Despite late withdrawals and atrocious weather conditions, it was a remarkable performance.”
