Airienteers hosted a double-header of town and country orienteering events last weekend.

On Saturday, Ilkley was the focus of urban orienteering – a format which requires lightning decision-making for navigating around the streets, alleyways, and open spaces in the town, while Sunday was reserved for the more traditional format of navigating around the complex moorland of Langstrothdale, north-west of Buckden.

Ian Nixon of Bradford had a sizzling run on the 5.1km A course at Ilkley, winning in 32min 07sec, well in front of Sheffield’s Adam Bradbury, while M50 runner Adrian Pickles also had a good run for fifth.

IIkley’s Susan Stevens also ran well to win the 3.1km C course in 31.49, just in front of fellow Airienteer Wendy Carlyle from Harden.

Maurie Cavert was the pick of local runners on the 4.2km blue course, finishing as runner-up to Sheffield University’s Andwen Darlington in 36.12.

Other leading Airienteer results at Ilkley were - A course: Andrew Kelly (7), Pauls Liepins (11), Nicholas Jones (15), Andis Celinskis (19), Mike Winter(20).
