Airienteers travelled to Brimham Rocks for a regional event which attracted 300 runners from across the northern region.

At 300m above Nidderdale, Brimham provides some of the best orienteering terrain in North Yorkshire, with a mixture of woods, moorland and a host of complex rock features.

Baildon’s Steve Watkins had a good run for third on the black course (9.76km) in 79.39. Graham Watson, also from Baildon, went well on the 8.19km brown course, finishing fifth in 75.09, while Mark Mon-Williams, from Ilkley, was third of 90 runners on the 5.65km blue course in 53.53, with Guiseley’s Bruce Woodley also running well for eighth place in 56.38.

Ruth Ker of Leeds was second woman in 60.17. Junior runner Matthew Brown was third on the 2.47km light green course.

Annie Brown, aged ten from Menston, was Airienteers’ only winner on the day, finishing the 1.4km white course in 15.25.
