Airedale Athletics have gained ground in the Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix Series after Wednesday’s third race at Pudsey.

With eight runners out, the men’s team climbed two spots to fourth (all points counted) behind Pudsey Pacers, Horsforth and Pudsey & Bramley.

The top two have a huge gap on the rest, but Airedale will have to hold off Stainland, Holmfirth, Knavesmire and Wakefield to maintain their exalted status in the ten-race series.

After points were tallied from just the top four runners, Airedale retained fourth place behind new leaders Pudsey & Bramley, Pudsey Pacers and Horsforth.

Pudsey & Bramley racked up the winning points as Richard Pattinson, Neil Armitage, Paul Stevenson and Jon Holah took top-six places.

Pattinson and Armitage came in first and second, both in under 30 minutes. Quentin Lewis (Airedale) and Jeremy Rogers (Abbey Runners) broke up the Pudsey pack, coming in fourth and fifth.

The fourth race is at Meanwood on Tuesday.

Sunny skies and the promise of a pie and pea supper kept 98 competitors happy at the Bingley St Ives Trail Race on Tuesday.

Ilkley Harriers beat Bingley for the third year running in the Mob Match aspect of the race.

Points are scored according to each runner’s time relative to the winner’s and then weighted according to gender and age.

This year Ilkley beat Bingley with 1,639 points to 1,521, with 19 runners from each club scoring points.

Ilkley’s Tom Adams screamed home in 32min 12sec to take the impressive scalp of Karl Gray (Calder Valley), who won the men's over-40s in 32min 21 sec.

Lucy Griffiths (Bingley) was first among the women, coming in 17th position overall in 39min 13sec.

Griffiths was a full minute ahead of Ilkley competitor Alison Bennett and Keighley & Craven’s Trish Gavins, who took second and third places for the women overall.

The race and supper raised £515 for the Riding for the Disabled charity.
