Raskelf Lake will be closed on Sunday for the sell-out Spenborough Guardian Trophy match, which draws at the Black Bull in Raskelf village at 9am. Aggregate weight standings before the final match: 1 Andy Jacques 87lb 12oz, 2 James Vickerman 64lb 2oz, 3 Andy Fox 57lb 3oz. The River Swale at Maunby will be closed tomorrow for an outside booking.

The club's annual meeting will take place next Wednesday at the Moorlands Club in Cleckheaton. All members are invited to attend and there will be a free pie-and-pea supper. Yearbooks will be required on entry. Anybody considering joining the committee should do so at this meeting.

Membership for the last three months of the year are at half-price, including the joining fee. Under-17s can join for £2.50, giving access to more than 70 waters around Yorkshire.

As the milder weather continues, there have been good catches from many waters. Raskelf continues to produce good catches of F1 carp, ide and skimmers. At Knotford, there are still good catches of carp to over 20lb – including 'The Mug', caught by Graham Bentley at 24lb 7oz – and bream.

The River Nidd at Cowthorpe produced some good catches of dace, small chub and barbel, along with a bream over 4lb, last week, but by the weekend it was carrying a good couple of feet of extra water, although Dave Dolecki still managed a barbel of just over 7lb.

SKIPTON AA

The River Aire brown-trout season ended last Saturday on a quiet note, with only the odd angler taking advantage of the mild and breezy conditions. In fact, the last couple of months have been something of an anti-climax because, despite decent water levels, the fishing has not been at its best and many anglers seemed to have lost heart just when the time should have been ripe for a good-conditioned end-of-season specimen.

Apart from a rumour of an eight-pounder (3.6 kg) early on in the season, the best recorded fish from the Skipton length appeared to be two fish of just over half that weight. They were plenty in the 2lb-3lb range, which, 20 years or more ago would have been outstanding, but certainly not these days with the catch-and-return policy enforced by most clubs.

Skipton Winter League competitors found the Broughton Road length of the canal in quite decent fettle last Sunday when the second match of the series was fished on the Sawley Street to Green Pipe length. Dry, cloudy, breezy but mild weather put the fish in a feeding mood and some decent weights were recorded.

Result: 1 Graeme Waterfall 1910g (including a bream of 1560g), 2 Bill Davenport 1250g (decent roach and a good perch), 3 Dave Fenn 680g (mixed small fish), 4 Andy Brook 650g, 5 Brett Young 620g, 6 Keith Brown 550g. Pairs: 1 Chenier & Waterfall 1990g, 2 Brown & Davenport 1800g, 3 Dave & Bob Fenn 1010g, 4 Whitaker & Brook 920g, 5 Aldis & Heaton 860g, 6 Wharton & Thomas 810g. Leading individuals: 1 Dave Fenn 41pts, 2 Graeme Waterfall 38, 3 Jason Aldis 36, 4 Brett Young 29. Pairs: 1 D&R Fenn 19, 2 Aldis & Heaton 18, 3 Davenport & Brown 16, 4 Chenier & Waterfall 15. Next match: Sunday, October 15 on Long Ing stretch of the canal at Barnoldswick.

BINGLEY AC

The canal continues to fish well, with good nets of small silvers and the odd bream, especially at Crossflatts and the Britannia bridge lengths. One member reported having a good day at Sunnydale Reservoir, with several roach to 1lb. The annual meeting will be on Tuesday, November 14th at Ryshworth Social Club Crossflatts (8pm).
