CITY of Bradford Esprit diver Holly Waxman picked up one of Great Britain's three gold medals at the prestigious Seven Nations junior competition in France.

The team of eight brought home 13 medals in all, Waxman winning the girls' B three-metre springboard event with a score of 357.80.

She also took silver in the girls' B one-metre springboard, finishing a mere 1.85 points behind the winner from Germany.

Former City of Bradford Esprit member Will Hallam won silver in the three-metre synchro event with first-time partner Anthony Harding and also took bronze in the boys' A one-metre and three-metres springboard events.

The success was not confined to the pool, however, as Joe Meszaros – swimming development manager at Bradford Council – was presented with the team trophy.

This was his first Great Britain international competition coaching the northern athletes Waxman, Hallam, Harding and Callie Eaglestone.

The event at Bourg-en-Bresse not only allowed the junior divers to prepare for the forthcoming season but was also the start of their four-year cycle.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's executive member for environment, sport and culture, said: "I'm pleased all the hard work has paid off for Holly. She is proving to be a real winner."
