Bradford Judo Club have notched a black-belt clean sweep in the West Yorkshire Championships in Bradford.

Starring at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in the men's senior 2nd Dan grade over-80kg category were Pavel Bogustovs (gold), Patrick Tucker (silver) and Steve Takhar (bronze).

In addition, clubmate John Barton won a 1st Dan bronze at the same weight.

Over 17 clubs competed in the West Yorkshire section, and Bradford Judo Club came away with many notable successes.

In addition, the Odsal venue staged the North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire Championships at the same time.

Other results for Bradford Judo Club members included - Men: Dave Chapman (3Kyu) under-90kg Blue Belt gold; Sam Simpler (4Kyu) under-73kg Blue Belt silver. Women: Rachel O'Keefe (3Kyu) under-67kg 1st Dan bronze. Juniors: Harrison Kirk under-46kg 16 years gold; Olivia Fisher under-40kg under-12 Years gold; Dani Chapman under-54Kg under-12 years silver; Kristie Mullun under-56kg under-16 years bronze.

Bradford Judo Club, which was formed in 1965, is one of the oldest in West Yorkshire.

They are based at Planet Fitness Gymnasium on the second floor of Coral Mills on Halifax Road (BD6 2DN between the Tesco superstore and Tesco’s petrol station) and they cater for the whole range of ages, from pre-teens to men and women over 60.

Senior coach is Michael Bowmer (07931-312450) and junior coach is Debbie Mullen (07985-654908).

Training is Wednesdays (7pm-8pm juniors, 8pm-9.15pm seniors) and Saturdays (noon-1pm seniors).
