Darryl HoeyBradford Corporal James ‘Mac’ McCallum finished second in the inaugural Rileys Camp Bastion Darts Challenge – staged for troops stationed in Afghanistan.

James, 25, of Buttershaw, showed fine form in the 15-man tournament for soldiers of the 4th Regiment Royal Artillery.

Rileys – the cue sports business who are adding Darts Zones to their clubs nationwide – provided the trophies, darts and flights for the event.

Married dad-of-four James said: “The Rileys Challenge has been a great morale-booster for the lads out here.

“We’ve all had to play each other, so it has taken a while to get through the competition, which has been fun all the way.

“We had all been practising like mad, so I’m delighted with second. We’d all like to thank Rileys for sending the darts and flights. Ours were battered!”

The Challenge was won by Sergeant Major Darryl Hoey of South Shields.

All the entrants will receive a free pint and a free year’s membership at any Rileys club when they return to the United Kingdom.
