Crews from Bradford Amateur Rowing Club won six events at Ancholme Head, Brigg, North Lincolnshire, battling some difficult winds over the 2,800-metre course on the River Ancholme.

Successes from the men’s squad included the men’s novice double sculls, John Morris and Dave Cooke completing the course in 11min 5sec, beating their nearest opposition by over a minute.

Tom Heaton won two categories – the men’s intermediate three and novice singles, improving his time of 12min 14sec in the morning to complete the course in 11min 48sec in the afternoon division.

The men also won the men’s veteran C/D handicap double, Carlton Smith and Roger Simpson finishing in just over 11 minutes.

The women’s squad also triumphed, with Rosy Hogg, Emma Farmer, Kim Davis and Laura Ginns being coxed to success by Sally Gorwitz, beating their nearest opposition by four seconds and another crew from the squad by 19 seconds to finish in 12min 41sec.

Cerys Jones and Aimee Lyons narrowly beat the other crew from Bradford to win the women’s junior 17 double event.

Special mention should go to the many younger juniors who braved unfamiliar water for the first time and put in strong performances boding well for future success.

Crews from all sections of the club participated in both divisions, including both men’s and women’s development crews who only took up the sport in April.
