City of Bradford Esprit Diving Club enjoyed success at the National Junior Elite Diving Championships in Plymouth last month, with 15-year-old Holly Waxman winning a silver and a bronze medal on the springboard.

The team’s best success came on the final day of the competition when Waxman and 17-year-old Domi Hinchliffe reached the final of the one metre springboard event (16-18 years age group) in third and fifth place respectively.

They were competing in a tough field, which contained a number of experienced ‘Team GB’ divers. Both girls maintained their excellent performance in the final with Waxman taking the silver and Hinchcliffe the bronze.

The double medal haul was a huge achievement for the Bradford club and its coach, Joe Meszaros.

Holly, who was recently crowned ‘Young Female Sportsperson of the Year’ at the Bradford Sports Awards, also earned bronze on the three metre springboard, topping an impressive season in her first year in the 16-18 year age group category.

Three other Bradford divers attended the event, which showcased the best junior divers in Great Britain and acted as a selection event for the GB junior team.

Current three metre 'Age Group Champion’ Joseph Nicol, who is 15, was making his debut at the higher elite level and he achieved 10th and 11th places in his events.

Thirteen-year-old Koben O’Driscoll continued his impressive form over his three events, saving his best effort for the final three metre springboard event, finishing in seventh place, an agonising 0.15 points away from qualifying for the final.

Gina Webb, who is 17, demonstrated her consistent performance with personal bests in both of her events, finishing in 14th and 15th places.

Bradford Esprit Diving Club is part of the Bradford Council Diving Scheme and is based at Shipley Pool.
