Bingley Bees Women made a strong start to their Yorkshire Women's Premier Division derby at home to Ben Rhydding-2.

A short corner gave Emma Hinkles the opportunity to put the hosts ahead with an unstoppable shot.

In a well-matched second half, Rhydding equalised but the visitors took the lead controversially.

A Rhydding player went down injured in the D, which made the Bingley players back off and ask for play to be stopped.

The player was on the floor until a ball came her way where she got up and, unmarked, scored. The decision was appealed by the opposing umpire to no avail.

The Bees found it difficult to keep their heads up, feeling the decision was not in the spirit of the game and, after a succession of penalty corners, the visitors made it 3-1.

Gail Day, instrumental in defence and midfield, was Bingley’s player of the match.

Bingley Bees Women’s-2 won 3-2 at Driffield-3 in Yorkshire Division Four, despite losing defender Jenny Bone with a serious injury.

Jane Sharkey opening the scoring for the visitors after a cross by player of the match, skipper Cath Wood.

Claire Watkins’ speed and skill during a 30-yard break made it 2-0 but Driffield equalised in the second half before Wood got the winner from a cheeky move.

Bingley Bees’ Men took advantage when Harrogate-5 arrived a player short in Yorkshire Division Six North, defeating them 6-0.

The opening goal came in the third minute, a short corner being powerfully dispatched by skipper Ben Clough.

Continued pressure gave Stephen Booth the opportunity to make it 2-0 in the sixth minute, and Robbie Manning got the third after excellent passing and ball possession.

Only a fine close-range save denied Joe Manning as half-time approached but it took the Bees 20 minutes to find the net in the second half, Clough scoring from close range.

Booth’s second was a superb solo and Clough completed his hat-trick after a scramble as the Bees secured their first points.

* Netherwood Ladies, where former England and Great Britain captain Jill Atkins started, have merged with Bradford Hockey Club’s ladies.

The new club, which is known as Netherwood-Bradford and play in Yorkshire Women’s Division Three, have relocated to Bradford Girls’ Grammar School.

The merger will have the twin benefits of giving Netherwood greater access to Bradford Hockey Club’s junior development and senior coaching regimes, and to provide Bradford’s girls with a ladies’ team to aspire to.

Netherwood Ladies were formed in 1965 and have previously played at Wibsey Park, Horsfall Playing Fields, Girlington Meths, Thornton Grammar School and the all-weather pitch at Scholemoor.

Bradford Hockey Club were formed in 1894, and in October 2005 were the first club in West Yorkshire to achieve the Clubs First Accreditation from England Hockey, recognising them as a safe, effective, child friendly club.

This kitemark, which lasts for three years, was renewed in February 2010, while last May Bradford won the Yorkshire Hockey Association trophy for most improved club.
