Gareth and Anthony Green, from the Lifeline Leisure Club on Manchester Road, are celebrating.

The brothers notched a 3-1 success over Shipley Social Club's John Wellham and Daniel Frost in the Bradford Snooker Pairs final at Great Horton Conservative Club.

Wellham and Frost started well, taking the first frame 60-26 to lead 1-0, but the Greens slowly gained in confidence and levelled with a comprehensive 78-15 frame win.

Gareth then made a break of 36 to edge the pair in front, taking the third 70-15, and a 37 break in the fourth for a 63-10 score gvae them the title.

This is Anthony’s first major Bradford trophy but Gareth has the honour of a rare double, having recently become Bradford singles champion.

This match was also filmed as part of a trial and can be viewed on Youtube under Bradford Snooker Pairs final.

It is anticipated that this will be developed further and will become a regular feature for big matches in the future - something which will generate more interest in snooker in the district.

In addition, plans are underway for improving the game in this region, with regards to competitions, communication, websites etc, and if anyone wishes to become involved they should contact the Bradford & District Billiards and Snooker chairman Richard Bakes on 07940-651850.

It is anticipated that a meeting will be arranged over the coming weeks to discuss new ideas and ways in which the game can be taken forward, which will benefit players, clubs and leagues in particular of both billiards and snooker.

More information will be available through this column, as well as direct communication via clubs and players as the new season approaches.
