The country’s top professional riders return to Brighouse tomorrow evening for the start of the 2012 British Cycling Elite Circuit Race Series.

Elite racing is back in the town after a two-year absence and spectators can look forward to watching a top-class field drawn from the nation’s major teams.

Town centre racing features non-stop action and organisers of the VS Cycles Brighouse Circuit Races are sure fans will enjoy the fast and furious spectacle.

Among the top teams taking part will be Endura Racing, who include Scott Thwaites of Burley-in-Wharfedale in their line-up.

Endura have dominated UK road racing so far this season and arrive in Brighouse on the back of a sensational victory in the Halfords Tour Series.

But they will not be allowed to have it all their own way as current national circuit race champion Graham Briggs (Team Raleigh-GAC) and Yorkshireman Tom Murray (IG Sigma Sport) will be just two of the many elite riders looking to do well in the first round of the series. Thwaites is in fine form, having won last week’s elite circuit race National Championship for the second year running at the Otley Cycle Races.

Michael Lever from the race organising team welcomed the return of professional cycling to Brighouse.

“VS Cycles is extremely proud to be able to bring the first round of the 2012 Men’s Elite Circuit Race Series to Brighouse,” he said.

“We have been off the calendar for two years but, knowing how tough the circuit is and how much the riders and teams have enjoyed it in the past, we just had to get it back on.

“We have great support and the circuit is ideal for spectators as it is easy to walk to any vantage point to see the action on the extremely fast straights and sharp corners.

“We cannot wait to see all the riders, teams and a huge crowd of supporters back in Brighouse.”

Racing will be contested on a half-mile clockwise circuit around Brighouse town centre, starting on King Street. Youth races kick off the action at 7pm, with the main elite event starting at 8.20pm.
