Youngsters from the City of Bradford Esprit Diving Club showed off their competitive spirit in Harrogate.

A total of 27 represented the club at the Hydro Novice competition hosted by Harrogate & District Diving Club.

The event was aimed at introducing competition to beginners and allowed them to execute a variety of drills and practices on the one-metre and three-metre boards.

The team brought home three medals, thanks to some excellent dives by Ben Western, who scored 164.55 points.

Team-mates Luke Barber and Martino Kruc fought a very close battle and both finished on the podium, with Luke taking silver just ahead of Martino.

Newer members Jacob Midgeley, Harry Spencer, Tom Blenkinsop and Grace Rogerson enjoyed the event and learnt lots about competing as a part of the team.

Councillor Andrew Thornton, Bradford Council’s executive member with responsibility for sport, said: “It is really important that up-and-coming divers get the opportunity to learn about competing, and events like this provide them with a great learning experience.

“I’m pleased to see the contestants from Bradford doing so well.”
