Silsden’s Dougie Lampkin once again showed determination as he rode through the pain barrier to record a top-ten finish at the second round of the 2012 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship at Lodz.

The 35-year old flew to Poland having been unable to ride his enduro bike since he sustained a chest injury in the opening round in Italy two weeks previously.

The GasGas rider had treatment when he returned to the UK to rectify a misaligned rib.

Lampkin was then unable to return to riding due to the pain.

While most riders may have opted to sit it out – SuperEnduro is tough at the best of times – the multi-world trials champion decided to put himself in the mix.

Lampkin played it safe and used his vast experience to survive qualifying, eventually placing eighth in a group that was topped by eventual winner Taddy Blazusiak.

It was then unlikely that Lampkin would complete the three ten-plus lap superfinals.

However, Lampkin finished ninth, ninth and tenth to come tenth overall – much better than he expected.

Lampkin said: “After qualifying, I was not too sure if I would be able to finish one race let alone three as the pain was pretty bad.”
