You had to be a mudlark to enjoy riding in the National Trophy cyclo-cross race at Peel Park today.
But the Bradford course – venue for the 2013 National Championships – was widely praised for being a true test of a rider’s skills.
“It’s the best course in the country,” said Bingley’s John Rawnsley, long-time course organiser.
“That’s why it has been chosen for the National Championships.”
There were two particularly tough sections – the ascent and descent from the tarmac plateau but they were merely part of what many observers called “a proper cyclo-cross course”.
And there was local success to savour too as Keighley’s Joe Moses gave a clinical performance to win the junior men’s race.
The Paul Milnes-Bradford Olympic rider defeated national champion Hugo Robinson by a minute, while Mirfield’s Louise Robinson was second in the women’s race.
