Having triumphed last week in the boys’ doubles at Wimbledon, Bolton’s George Morgan yesterday began his quest for another tandem title in Ilkley.

Morgan and his regular partner Mate Pavic from Croatia are seeded fourth in the $10,000 JM Glendinning Group International Tournament.

And, boosted by their 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Czech Jiri Vesely and Surrey’s Oliver Golding on No 1 Court at SW19, they started their Ilkley campaign with a 4-6, 6-3 (10-4) triumph over Italians Enrico Iannuzzi and Francesco Vilardo.

Awaiting the likely lads in the quarter-finals are unseeded Britons Edward Corrie and James Marsalek.

Also through to the last eight are New Zealander Marvin Barker and Ilkley’s Kyle Brassington, who defeated Britain’s Chris Nott and American Blake Strode.

They now face Britons Maniel Bains and Marcus Willis, who put out third seeds Lewis Burton (Great Britain) and Albano Olivetti (France).

It is one thing progressing in the doubles but quite another to make headway in the singles, and Golding lost 6-1, 6-3 to fellow British wild card Andrew Fitzpatrick.

Morgan was another cas-ualty, but he had a tougher draw, going out 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to second seed and 2010 runner-up David Rice.

Rain meant that eight first-round matches were postponed until today, in-cluding that of Brassington.

He faces Burnham Ar-lidge, with the winner meeting top seed and world No 336 Alexander Sadecky (Switzerland), who defeated Liverpool’s Neal Skupski 6-4, 6-4.
