Yorkshire are through to the semi-finals of the SENIOR COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP after beating Cheshire 443-381 in their final group game.

In the home match at Marsh United, they carded seven winners and won the aggregate by 48 chalks. Captain Graham Hickey (Lower Hopton) led the way with a 21-5 victory. * Yorkshire also carded an impressive six winners in the away match at Altrincham Boro BC to win the aggregate by 14 chalks. Graeme Wilson (Lower Hopton, 21-3) and Scott Fisher (Morton House, 21-5) were the top men here. The semi-finals take place on Sunday, August 7 and Yorkshire will be looking to go one better than last season, when they lost to East Midlands in the final.

In the home match at Horton Park, Bradford only managed two winners, with Graham Oliver (Knowles, 21-14) the pick of them. They fared slightly better in the away match at Mytholmroyd BC by logging three winners, with Mick Lambert (Wyke, 21-5) starring.

* Lower Hopton duo Chris Brown and Graeme Wilson were the week two qualifiers in the SPEN MASTERS, sponsored by P&I Hopkins Butchers of Birkenshaw. Brown eased through by defeating Dean Scarth (Batley) 21-14, David Jackson (Macclesfield) 21-5 and James Wilcox (Crossgates) 21-16 to take number seven slot in the draw for finals night. Wilson was just as impressive, seeing off Neil Worthington (Derby) 21-6, Alec Heeps (Stockport) 21-9 and Shane Day (Sheffield) 21-16 and booking number one position.

* Farsley C&BC have reluctantly decided to cancel their annual WINTER PAIRS competition this season due to problems with the playing surface.

The club admit the green is in poor condition and felt it would not be appropriate for such a prestigious event.

Farsley president Geoff Lacey said: “We are sorry to have to announce this but we need to rest the green. Work will start during September in order to give it a real chance of recovering for next season. “By doing this work now, we hope to reap the full benefits next season and hold our Winter Pairs competition again in 2012. We hope all bowlers will be sympathetic to our decision, with a view to joining us again then.”
