Mark Hobson will deliver a statement of intent in the plush surrounds of London's Grosvenor Hotel tomorrow night.

The West Yorkshire cruiserweight is a firm favourite to lift the lightly-regarded WBU title against Pavol Polakovic.

But just as importantly, it is the chance to put himself on the world boxing map.

The Sky fight is also being broadcast in America - and a good showing would raise Hobson's hopes of landing a big shot across the water.

Trainer Chris Aston said: "Showtime are beaming it live so we've got to make a big statement. It's a chance for Mark to impress again.

"The Americans liked him against Enzo Maccarinelli, ITV liked him against Buster Keaton and now Mark can catch the eye again. It's a big, big show for us with international coverage and the chance is there."

A win would steer Hobson nearer a mouth-watering rematch with Welshman Maccarinelli after their classic at Manchester in March - a clash that could happen next summer.

First Hobson must dispose of his opponent from the Czech Republic, who came through a 12-round victory less than a month ago.

Aston added: "We don't know too much about him from his record but he must be confident to go into someone else's backyard.

"He was an Olympic representative and is apparently a very good switch hitter.

"He may be at the same stage as when Mark fought Sebastian Rothmann but I hope he comes here to give us a few problems. If his opponent makes a fight of it, that will mean that Mark has to perform.

"I want America to sit up and watch this fight."

Meanwhile, Hobson's Huddersfield stablemate Dale Robinson is considering his options after a match-up with Commonwealth flyweight champion Lee Haskins fell through because no TV date was available.

Aston said: "We have a plan B afoot for Dale, although we will need another job before it can be hatched."
