Former Bradford Police and College Academy Boxing Club fighter Nicola Adams is convinced she is closing in on Olympic 2012 glory after leading a triple-medal haul by Great Britain boxers at the women’s European Union Championships in Poland.

Adams – a former student at Bradford University – secured a notable 17-13 win over home favourite Karolina Michalczuk – who had beaten her for world gold in Barbados last year – while Liverpool’s Natasha Jonas also won gold in the 64kg division.

Adams said: “I’m feeling fantastic at the moment and now that I’ve started to turn my silver medals into golds and beat fighters who I’ve lost to before, my confidence is as high as it could be.

“I’ve had a tough time getting this far because of my injuries but working full-time in Sheffield as part of such a strong women’s team is really paying off for all of us and I’m sure you’ll see the benefits in London.”

Teenager Chantelle Cameron won bronze in her first senior international tournament, losing her semi-final to Ireland’s world champion Katie Taylor 28-10. Savannah Marshall reached the last eight at 75kg.
