Dean Harrison has vowed to book his return ticket to the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy as soon as he reaches home after signing off from an impressive debut in the PokerStars Senior TT.

Idle's Harrison, whose dad Conrad enjoyed a couple of podium finishes in the two Sure Sidecar races, stamped his mark on the infamous 37.73-mile Mountain Course by claiming the best newcomer title in the Monster Energy Supersport event.

Things did not go quite as well for Harrison junior in the curtain call after he was forced out of the blue-riband Senior TT with gearbox troubles.

But after rubbing shoulders with the likes of eventual winner and 17-time TT champion John McGuinness, privateer Harrison admitted he was champing at the bit to return.

“I can’t wait to come back next year, hopefully with some better bikes, and really build on what’s been a very good start,” said Harrison.

“We didn’t get quite as much time as we would have liked with the bikes in practice because obviously I’m learning the course all the time as a newcomer.

“We have had problems with the big bike all week, which is a shame because if it weren’t for the technical problems we could have gone well in both races.

“The fuel pump packed up in the Superbike and then we had a problem with the gearbox, so I’ve had to stop when the race was going really well and we were riding high.

“But I was best newcomer in the Supersport races, so I can’t complain – especially on what are standard bikes with no touching up at all.”

Harrison’s dad Conrad racked up second and third places in the two sidecar races and, after proving his mettle around the island, Dean hoped he might finally get a go in the three-wheel event.

“I did a 119mph lap on the smaller bike and was running fast on the big bike as well, so there are plenty of positives to take from my first TT,” he said.

“It’s been a pretty successful two weeks for the family overall because dad has brought home two podium finishes as well.

“It’s his own fault I’ve decided to race bikes and not sidecars. He never let me have a go in the sidecars, so I’ve had no option to date.”
