DeMarcus Corley's trainer has been labelled a "guttersnipe" after rubbishing Junior Witter's chances in next week's world title fight.

Witter bids to be crowned WBC light-welterweight champion when he goes toe-to-toe with American Corley at Alexandra Palace in London ten days from now.

The Bradford fighter has already been written off by Corley's trainer Roger Mayweather, who questioned his unorthodox style and past record.

Mayweather, uncle of Pretty Boy' Floyd Mayweather, also claimed that the only way Corley would not fly back home with the belt was "if he got robbed".

But his pre-fight trash-talk has brought an immediate retort from Witter's legendary cornerman Brendan Ingle.

"You would think the man would have a bit more class as a former world champion," he said. "Mayweather should have a bit more about him. This is gutter talk.

"I think he could be a decent trainer and Corley is a decent fighter but he's talking like a guttersnipe.

"He's trying to wind everyone up, cause a bit of a stir and make a bit more of a name for himself. But he is also showing how ignorant he is with some of his comments.

"You would think that with him having some success and being supposedly knowledgeable that he would have been able to come up with a better assessment and be a bit more respectful."

Mayweather's confidence is based on Corley's previous history - he has gone the distance with Floyd Mayweather Junior as well as facing Miguel Cotto and Zab Judah.

But Ingle is predicting a tough night for the Washington DC southpaw.

Ingle added: "Mayweather can try to boost his man's confidence and undermine Junior's all he likes but that will mean nothing come the time of the fight. He'll get a shock.

"Our style that he criticises is proven. It is based on footwork and movement and for him to criticise Junior is a joke.

"To be able to move like he does as an orthodox, southpaw or switch-hitting fighter is very difficult. It's a nightmare to fight."

Witter added: "Why isn't Mayweather talking about what Corley's bringing to the table instead of making up negatives about me?

"He's deluding himself. He's trying to see things that are not there and he's setting Corley up for a big fall."
