Junior Witter will aim to relaunch his career tonight with victory in the welterweight edition of Barry Hearn’s Prizefighter series at York Hall in Bethnal Green.

The Sky Sports-televised event (starting at 8pm on Sky Sports 2) pits Bradford’s former WBC light-welterweight title-holder against some of Britain’s best fighters of the last decade and a couple of top young prospects.

European and IBO world champion Colin Lynes, former British champion Kevin McIntyre, former European title challenger Peter McDonagh, former British Masters title challenger Nathan Graham, Moroccan-born Yassine El Maachi and unbeaten pair John Wayne Hibbert and Bobby Gladman will also be competing for the first prize of £32,000.

Witter looked a shadow of his former self on his return to the ring after an 18-month absence in February, losing a majority decision to Victor Lupo in Canada.

The defeat was his fourth in 43 professional fights.

Now, with his career hanging in the balance, tonight’s contest is make-or-break.

The Prizefighter format demands the winner must progress through three three-round bouts and the draw means The Hitter could meet old foe Lynes in the final.

Lynes lost a decision to Witter five years ago when the British, Commonwealth and European light-welterweight belts were on the line.
