More than 1,000 people have already signed up to next month’s Bradford City Run.

This year’s event, to be held on Sunday, October 17, will be a half-marathon with a four-person relay, a 5k fun run and two children’s races of 3k and 1k.

The Schools Cup will be awarded to the school with the most entrants.

Councillor, the Reverend Paul Flowers, portfolio holder for culture, tourism and sport, said: “We are really looking forward to building on the success of the Bradford City Run.

“We hope the people of Bradford and beyond will step up to the new challenge of a half marathon, but if not they can still have a go at the 5k. This is a fun day for all the family and residents of all ages and abilities can participate and enjoy the achievement of completing a race.”

The half marathon will take a scenic route from the Alhambra Theatre, around Thornton and Denholme, up to Sandy Lane, and back down to Lister Park.

A spokesman for the run said: “We are expecting this year’s event to be a lot bigger than last year. It is attracting lots of attention from runners across the country.

“We’re also getting entries in from schools, we’ve got a massive silver cup for them to win. We want teachers and children to turn up on the day and walk, hop, skip or run the route. That would be fantastic.

“Now that the schools are back we want them all involved. We want everyone to come and get involved in sport, it’s a great way to keep fit.”

The race will cost £15 for adults and £5 for junior runners and entry is open to anyone over the age of 16.
