Tasif Khan aims to blast away 14 months of frustration with a stylish return to the ring next week.

The Girlington-born bantamweight is booked to appear on the Matthew Hatton undercard at Bolton Arena on July 16.

Khan’s progress since teaming up with experienced Leeds trainer Rick Manners has been halted after the late cancellation of two planned shows.

He last fought in May 2009, when a full house at Bradford’s Rio Grande banqueting hall saw a four-round draw against Anwar Alfadli.

Now Khan is hungry to go again by grabbing the opportunity on a televised Sky bill.

He said: “Boxing for me is both physical and mental. You get ready for a fight with all the training and dieting and prepare yourself mentally and then it doesn’t happen.

“Call it bad luck or being let down, but it is draining when the shows get called off. That’s why when this fight came up at short notice I really wanted to take it.

“It’s a big chance to showcase my skills. I want to get things back on track with a fight before Ramadan and the season comes to an end.

“I’ve got a good team behind me in my trainer and management. Rick always makes sure I’m in the best condition and they are confident that I can take another step closer to where I want to be.”

Donovan Smillie also returns to action in Salford the following night.

Tickets for the Bolton show – as well as the Mike Tyson event on July 17 at the Abundant Life Centre – are available on 07976-589741.
